TROY, NY - The Connecticut Tigers and Tri-City ValleyCats went back and forth over the middle three innings, with the Tigers falling 10-6 on Tuesday night at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.

The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on a Jason King two-run bomb to right, his fourth home run of the year. They added a run in the second on a Javier Azcona RBI single to score Matt Perry, who led off the frame with a double.

Tri-City tied the game at three in the fourth. After a Justin Gominsky single, Zach Johnson hit a two-run homer to cut the deficit to one. The ValleyCats then tied the game on an RBI base hit from Bubby Williams to score John Hinson, who earlier in the inning had hit a double.

Connecticut regained the lead in the top of the fifth on an RBI triple by Eugenio Suarez, scoring Chad Wright to put the Tigers up 4-3.

However, the ValleyCats came right back to take their first lead of the game with another three-run inning in the bottom of the fifth. After a leadoff single by Gominsky, Zach Johnson followed with a base hit and both runners were driven in on a Brandon Meredith two-run triple. The ValleyCats then went on top 6-4, as Meredith raced in to score from third on a wild pitch by Tigers starter Matt Crouse.

The Tigers would not go down silently. They tied the game back up at six in the top of the sixth inning when Azcona hit a two-run double down the right field line to score Dean Green and King, who hit back-to-back singles to start the inning.

The ValleyCats though once again put up a three-spot, for the third straight inning, in the bottom of the sixth. Guido Knudson came on in relief of Crouse. Williams, who led off the inning, hit a routine fly ball to left field, but Tigers left fielder Edwin Gomez lost the ball in the lights and it dropped in for what was ruled a double. Drew Muren followed with an RBI single to score Williams and give the ValleyCats a 7-6 lead, a lead they would not relinquish.

They added two more runs in the sixth inning to go up 9-6. The Tigers had an opportunity to mount a comeback in the seventh, as they loaded the bases with one out. However, Jeff Holm struck out and Matt Perry grounded out to end the threat.

The Tigers will try to even up the series with the ValleyCats, tomorrow morning. For the second time in the last three days the Tigers game will begin at 11:05 AM.
