Iowa Wolves Fall in Road Contest at Motor City Cruise, 122-114

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa Wolves (1-2) fell in its first road contest of the season as the Motor City Cruise (2-1) rallied for a 122-114 win on Tuesday night at Wayne State Fieldhouse.

Minnesota Timberwolves assignment player Leonard Miller led Iowa with 25 points while Javonte Cooke and D.J. Carton had 23 and 22 points, respectively.

Jontay Porter and Xavier Simpson each scored 21 points for Motor City.

Iowa overcame a 15-2 deficit at the start of the game to lead 68-58 at halftime. However, Motor City used a big third quarter scoring performance by Buddy Boeheim who scored 15 points in the quarter to lead 97-89 going into the fourth.

The Wolves twice pulled within three points of the Cruise early in the fourth. Simpson helped built the lead back up each time as he finished with 11 points alone in the fourth. Cooke knocked down a three-pointer with just over three minutes that put Iowa within five, but Simpson put the game away with seven consecutive points.

Timberwolves assignment player Wendell Moore Jr. scored 15 points. Rookie Nojel Eastern made his first career start and finished with a career-high 10 points and 14 rebounds for his first-ever double-double.

Iowa continues its road trip Thursday night in the first of two games at the Wisconsin Herd. Thursday night starts at 6 p.m. and it will be broadcast locally on WHO Channel 13.4 as well as on ESPN+.
