Iowa Wolves Fall in Overtime in Series Finale with Salt Lake City

WEST VALLEY, Utah - The Salt Lake City Stars outlasted the Iowa Wolves on Saturday night for a 117-115 overtime win at the Maverik Center.

It was the first overtime contest for Iowa (1-4) this season as Salt Lake City (2-3) completed the back-to-back sweep in the only games this season between the two teams. The G League's new overtime format using target score was utilized with a target score of 117 as the teams were tied at 110 at the end of regulation.

Emmanuel Mudiay returned to Wolves after missing the past six games due to injury. Mudiay finished with just 12 points but eight came in the final two minutes of regulation that helped force overtime. Mudiay canned two deep three-pointers and added a pair of free throws.

D.J. Carton scored the first points of overtime and PJ Dozier put Iowa up 114-110 with a tough putback that he was fouled on. But Dozier's free throw missed and Johnny Juziang's three-pointer on the next possession dropped after circling the hoop and nearly popping out of the rim. Juziang finished just 2-of-16 from the field but made all seven free throws with three coming on the Stars next possession. After Carton made one of two free throws for a 115-113 lead, Mudiay grazed Juziang on a three-point attempt and was called for a foul as Juziang made all three free throws for a 116-115 lead.

Needing a basket for the win, Carton drove to the basket and was knocked to the ground as his layup missed and Micah Potter rebounded for the Stars. With just five seconds left on the shot clock, the ball was ruled out of bounds by the Wolves. On the inbounds, Rawle Alkins passed to former Iowa standout Tyler Cook who ended the game with a cutting layup.

Cook and former Iowa Wolve Leandro Bolmaro led Salt Lake with 22 points each. Dozier paced Iowa with 21 points while CJ Elleby had 20 points off the bench. Carton finished with 18 points.

Iowa stays on the road and visits the South Bay Lakers on Monday night with tipoff scheduled for 9 p.m. CT.
