Intimidators Score Late to Drop Shorebirds, 1-0

Salisbury, Md. - The Kannapolis Intimidators (21-30) scored five runs over their final three innings at the plate to defeat the Delmarva Shorebirds (20-32) 5-1 at CMC-Northeast Stadium on Wednesday night.

Shorebirds starter Zach Davies and Kannapolis starter Jarrett Casey were locked in a pitcher's duel over the first five innings.

Kannapolis took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Joe De Pinto hit a leadoff single. He reached second on a grounder to short. Then, on a hit and run, Davies struck out Courtney Hawkins but Wynston Sawyer threw wide to third, allowing De Pinto to score.

Zach Davies was stellar over six complete innings. He yielded just three hits and one unearned run. He retired eight of the final nine batters faced.

Jason McCracken entered in the seventh for his Shorebirds debut. The first three hitters reached including a double by Chris Curley to score Mark Haddow to increase the lead to 2-0. After giving up three straight hits, McCracken struck out Martin Medina and got Leighton Pangilinan to fly out to right field.

In the eighth inning, David Baker surrendered three runs on five hits as Kannapolis stretched the lead to 5-0.

In the ninth inning, the Shorebirds scored an unearned run off Jason Van Skike. Sammie Starr reached on an error to open the inning. He later scored on a chopper by Wynston Sawyer just beyond the mound.

With a hit in the ninth inning, Mikey Planeta increased his hit streak to nine games, a season long.
