Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - For the second time in their three-game series against the Lakewood BlueClaws, the Augusta GreenJackets waited until the sixth inning to do their damage. Three runs in the sixth propelled the GreenJackets to a 3-1 win over the BlueClaws and the three-game series sweep over Lakewood - Augusta's third at home against a Northern Division opponent this season.

After being held to just one hit through the first five innings, the GreenJackets broke loose in the sixth. Kelby Tomlinson doubled to lead off the sixth and Jeff Arnold singled to put runners on the corners. Carlos Willoughby's base hit to right field tied the game at one. After Shawn Payne walked to load the bases, Lakewood starter Gabriel Arias rallied slightly to strike out back-to-back hitters. With two outs, Wes Hodges drove home a pair with a two-run single to hand the GreenJackets a 3-1 lead they wouldn't lose.

DeMondre Arnold, Steven Neff and Chris Marlowe held the BlueClaws scoreless over the game's final three innings to seal the win for Kyle Crick (6-6). The righty fired six innings and allowed a run on three hits and two walks while striking out five. Marlowe struck out two in the ninth for his first career save.

For the third straight night, the BlueClaws drew first blood. In the first inning, Kelly Dugan's RBI double put the BlueClaws up 1-0. Lakewood got their only run and two of the three hits they'd get against Crick in the first inning. In his final five innings, Crick held Lakewood scoreless on one hit.

The GreenJackets were helped by the fact that the BlueClaws were 0-7 at the plate with runners in scoring position in the contest and 1-28 in that situation in the three-game series.

On Thursday, the GreenJackets open an eight-game road trip over the span of seven days with the first of a four-game series against the Charleston RiverDogs. Paul Davis (5-6, 3.86) gets the nod for the GreenJackets on the mound in the series opener against Charleston's Scottie Allen. First pitch from Charleston comes at 7:05 p.m. with radio coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1340 AM and www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.

The GreenJackets return home for the season's final Thirsty Thursday on Thursday August 23rd as they open a four-game series with the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Single-game tickets for any GreenJackets home game are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
