Asheville Tourists News Release

Ben Alsup added to his impressive season with a masterful pitching performance Wednesday night. The Tourists Righty tossed a complete game, one-hit shutout as Asheville defeated Charleston 6-0. The lone hit came on a broken bat, bloop single to shallow right field by Ben Gamel in the seventh inning.

Jordan Ribera drove in all six runs for the Tourists with three separate two-run base hits. Ribera singled home a pair in the third, hit a two-run Homer in the fifth, and singled in two more in the seventh. Trevor Story reached base five times for the T's and scored three times.

Even with Ribera's excellent night at the dish, the evening belonged to Alsup. Ben sat down the first 17 RiverDogs of the game before issuing a two out walk to Eduardo Sosa in the sixth. Alsup retired the next batter and then the first hitter in the seventh before Gamel broke up the no-hit bid. The ball just went over the outstretched glove of Taylor Featherston and Ben was given a standing ovation when the play concluded.

Charleston was able to draw a one out walk in the ninth, but Alusp finished off the contest without allowing any more base-runners. He retired Gamel on a fly-out to end the game. Alsup threw 88 pitches in his first complete game as a Tourist and picked up win number 12 of the campaign. Charleston did not put a ball out of the infield until Dante Bichette Jr. flied out to center when leading of the fifth.

The Tourists swept the RiverDogs for the second time this season and have won their past seven home games. Asheville will host the Greenville Drive on Thursday night at 7:05pm.
