Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 12, 2011) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators completed a four-game sweep of the Lexington Legends with a 5-2 win on Thursday night at Fielcrest Cannon Stadium. The Intimidators have won their last six games and took seven of eight during the home stand.

Starting pitcher Jake Petricka (3-1) kept the Legends quiet in his seven innings on the mound for the win, allowing two runs and scattering six hits while striking out four and allowing one walk. J.R. Ballinger tossed two scoreless innings to earn his second save of the season.

Kannapolis strung together four hits to open the second inning and chase Lexington starter Tanner Bushue from the game. Mike Blanke and Dan Black singled, and Juan Silverio and Drew Lee each followed with RBI-doubles. Two batters later, Kyle Eveland added an RBI single off reliever Jason Chowning to bring in Silverio, and Lee scored on a throwing error on the play.

The Intimidators tacked on another run in the bottom of the third on Silverio's sac fly, but Lexington returned fire in the fourth as Jiovanni Mier doubled to lead off the fourth, and Mike Kvasknicki drove him home, making it 5-1 Kannapolis.

The Legends threatened in the sixth inning after a Kvasnicka RBI- single left runners on first and third and brought the tying run to the plate in a 5-2 game. Petricka induced a ground ball off Emilio King, and Silverio began the inning-ending 5-4-3 double play, the Intimidators second twin-killing of the night.

Kannapolis hits the road for seven games, beginning a four-game series in West Virginia starting Friday. The Intimidators swept a five-game series against the Power at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium earlier this season.
