Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - A pair of five-run innings launched the Rome Braves to a big lead that they didn't lose as they dealt the Augusta GreenJackets their second straight setback. The GreenJackets fell 13-6 on Thirsty Thursday in front of 3,828 fans at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

For Augusta, the loss is their eighth straight in a series finale and it denied the GreenJackets the chance at their first series win of the year.

Rome sent ten hitters to the plate in the third and scored five times - with two errors allowing the first two runs to score. The GreenJackets would go on to commit a total of five errors in the contest. Edward Salcedo and Robert Hefflinger brought home runs on back-to-back RBI singles while a Christian Bethancourt sac fly made it 5-0.

The Braves scored twice more in the fourth on the first of Hefflinger's two doubles in the game to go up 7-0. Augusta dug in during the bottom half of the fourth to make it a close game. The GreenJackets sent nine hitters to the plate and scored five times in the inning to pull to within two. Drew Biery's bases loaded single - his first his as a GreenJacket - put Augusta on the board. The big blast came on Josh Mazzola's two-run double, with a third run scoring on an error later in the play, to make it a 7-4 game. Mazzola scored on a sacrifice fly to cut Rome's lead to two.

Right away, the Braves got all five runs back in the fifth on four hits, a walk and two errors to pull away to a 12-5 lead at the halfway point. The GreenJackets got a run on Ryan Scoma's eighth inning sacrifice fly but Rome got the run right back on Salcedo's RBI single in the ninth.

Taylor Rogers (1-5) was chased before he could get run support, firing just three innings and allowing five runs - three earned - on four hits and a walk. Danillo Alvarez (2-1) allowed a hit over 2.2 scoreless innings in relief of Rome starter Steven Kent to get the win. Tyler Stovall held the fort over the last three innings to earn the save for the Braves.

The GreenJackets hit the road for a four-game trip to Hickory with lefty Mike Kickham (0-0, 0.00) making his GreenJackets debut in the opener. He'll face righty Matt Thompson (0-2, 3.86). First pitch will come at 7:05 with the pregame action beginning at 6:50, airing on WRDW AM 1630 and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com . The GreenJackets return home on Tuesday for the opener of a three-game series with the Greenville Drive at 7:05 p.m. as the GreenJackets close in on their one-millionth fan under Ripken Baseball ownership. That lucky fan will win a trip for four to Disneyworld, courtesy of Augusta Vascular Center
