Hickory Crawdads News Release
SAVANNAH, GA - The Hickory Crawdads shut out the Savannah Sand Gnats, 1-0, in a 13-inning game before 2,126 fans at Historic Grayson Stadium on Thursday night.
The Crawdads (20-13) received a scoreless start from RHP Justin Grimm, who struck out five batters and only walked one with six hits scattered through seven innings. Grimm gave way to RHP Ryan Rodebaugh, who logged four scoreless frames before being relieved by LHP Kevin Johnson (W, 1-0) with one on in the 12th inning.
After Johnson kept the scoreless tie intact through the 12th, the Crawdads cracked the tie with the game's first run in the top of the 13th against RHP Luis Rojas (L, 1-2). SS Jurickson Profar led off with a double to shallow right-center field and moved to third on a 3B Christian Villanueva fly out to center. DH Andrew Clark worked a 2-0 lead in his count, before the Sand Gnats (15-18) elected to complete the walk intentionally. However, Rojas dealt a wild pitch on the fourth intentional ball to Clark, enabling Profar to race home and put Hickory ahead, 1-0.
Savannah attempted a comeback, loading the bases against RHP Joe Van Meter (S, 2) in the bottom of the 13th, but Van Meter worked out of the jam to close the 1-0 marathon win for the Crawdads.
