Hickory Crawdads News Release
HICKORY, NC - The 1st-Half Northern Division Champion Hickory Crawdads fell to the Kannapolis Intimidators, 3-0, before 1,881 at L.P. Frans Stadium on Thursday night.
Kannapolis (64-49, 27-18) took the lead with one big swing from 1B Dan Black to start the top of the second against RHP Ben Henry (L, 4-2). Black jumped on a first-pitch fast ball, driving it over the wall for a solo home run and a 1-0 lead for Kannapolis.
Henry kept the Intimidators from adding to their lead throughout the remainder of his six-inning start, in which he struck out a season-high 10 batters. However, Intimidators RHP Jon Bachanov (W, 1-1) logged five scoreless innings of his own, before three frames from RHP Justin Collop and one inning from LHP Wes Whisler to close it out against the Crawdads (66-48, 26-20).
Kannapolis added its insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings against LHP Jimmy Reyes. LF Collin Kuhn made it a 2-0 advantage with an RBI double in the seventh, before CF Trayce Thompson stretched it to a three-run lead with an RBI single in the eighth, accounting for the 3-0 final score in the Kannapolis victory.
