STAT OF THE NIGHT: The O's and their U.S. affiliates all won yesterday. The Orioles beat the White Sox 6-4. On the farm, Norfolk beat Lehigh Valley 5-4, Bowie beat Reading 6-4, Frederick beat Myrtle Beach 5-2 and Aberdeen beat State College 5-1.
PREVIEW: The Shorebirds aim for back-to-back wins after a thrilling 6-4 comeback win over Hagerstown in game one. For just the fourth time this season, the Shorebirds won a game when trailing after seven innings. The 'Birds put four runs on the board in the eighth which included a two-run single by Michael Ohlman to give Delmarva their first lead of the game. The Shorebirds are 9.5 games back of first place with 25 games left.
ALL-TIME WINS LEADER: Luis Noel locked away his 21st career win for the Shorebirds, the most in franchise history. He is the first player to win 20 games in a career for the Shorebirds. Jayme Sperring won 16 games between 2000-2003. Matt Schwager also won 16 games between 2000-01.
ROONEY'S HEATING UP: Michael Rooney is 6-for-16 over his last four games with two-multi hit games. Prior to the recent stretch, Rooney went 17 straight games without a multi-hit game (July 12 through August 3). Rooney has had most success when batting second in the order (18-62, .290).
SUCCESS IN SERIES OPENERS: The Shorebirds have won four of their last five series openers including last night. However, they have won game two of the series just once in the last six series.
TERRIFIC TOLLIVER: Ashur Tolliver hurled three more scoreless innings against Kannapolis on Monday night to increase his scoreless innings streak to 16 over his last eight outings. His ERA has dropped from 4.15 to 2.39 during the stretch. Over his last 22 innings pitched (since June 25), Tolliver has allowed just one earned run (0.40 ERA).
15-GAME ON BASE STREAK: Shorebirds catcher Michael Ohlman has reached base in a career high 15 consecutive games dating back to July 22. Ohlman has hit safely in eight of his last nine.
10 K'S FOR COWAN: Jake Cowan became the first Shorebirds starter to strikeout ten batters in a game this season. Reliever Jason Gurka struck out ten batters in 3.2 innings on April 9. Nick Haughian (8/20/10) was the last starter to strikeout ten batters in a game.
