Inter Miami CF Signs Goalkeeper Clément Diop
January 11, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - Inter Miami CF News Release
Inter Miami CF announced today it has signed goalkeeper Clément Diop to a contract running through the 2022 Major League Soccer (MLS) season, with a club option for the 2023 campaign.
"Clément is an experienced professional and we've seen his talent firsthand as he trained with Inter Miami since September. We're happy to have him officially join the team and add to our already strong goalkeeper group," said Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson.
Diop, 28, signs for Inter Miami after training with the team for much of 2021. Prior to joining the group, the goalkeeper played for CF Montréal for three-and-a-half seasons, where he helped the team win the 2019 Canadian Championship, starting four matches en route to the title, including both legs of the final. In MLS play during his time with Montréal, Diop started 30 regular season matches and one playoff match, keeping seven clean sheets. Notably, he started 20 of the team's matches in the shortened 2020 season.
Diop also has additional MLS experience, featuring for the LA Galaxy for two seasons before joining Montréal. He started 17 MLS matches and three U.S. Open Cup matches in that time.
The Paris, France native began his professional career at Amiens SC in France, where he started for the reserve team for two seasons.
On the international stage, Diop represented France at the youth levels before making his senior international debut with Senegal in a friendly against Uganda in 2017.
