RICHMOND, Va. -- Third baseman Jose Hernandez, shortstop Don Kelly and second baseman Brian Bixler went 4-for-10 with three doubles, three stolen bases, three runs, four walks and four RBI to help Indianapolis score a 4-3 victory over Richmond Thursday evening at The Diamond.
The Indians improve to 57-55 overall and 25-30 on the road, while the Braves fall to 61-50 on the season and 28-25 at home. Friday will be the Tribe's 256th consecutive day with a record of .500 or better.
Hernandez (1-for-4, 2 RBI) and Kelly (1-for-2, 2 R) contributed to two runs, while Bixler (2-for-4, 1 R, 2 RBI) had his hand in on three scores. Bixler also collected a pair of doubles, while Kelly established new season highs for walks (3) and stolen bases (3).
Kelly and Bixler hammered back-to-back doubles to put Indianapolis on the scoreboard in the third.
The duo kept things rolling in the fifth. Kelly drew a two-out walk, stole second and came plateward on Bixler's two-bagger to left. LF Michael Ryan and 1B Steven Peace then drew back-to-back free passes before Hernandez smashed a two-run single to left.
The Braves fought back with one run in the fifth and two more in the seventh. 1B Barbaro Canizares whacked a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly in the fifth, while C Brayan Pena did the same thing in the seventh. RF Doug Clark plated Richmond's final run moments later when 3B Wes Timmons roped a single through the left side.
Indianapolis LHP Michael Tejera (6.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO) registered his fourth consecutive quality start and improved to 6-2 with the win.
Indians RHP Bret Prinz (1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 SO) was credited with his ninth hold of the campaign, while RHP Franquelis Osoria (1.0 IP, 1 BB, 1 SO) picked up his 11th save.
Richmond RHP Moises Hernandez (4.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 1 SO) was tagged with the loss in his first Triple-A decision of the 2007.
The teams wrap up the four-game set on Friday at 7 p.m. RHP Marty McLeary is slated to start for Indianapolis, while RHP Lance Cormier is expected to get the nod for Richmond.
The contest will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 6:40 p.m.
