Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Pawtucket Red Sox in the second game of a two-game series from McCoy Stadium (12:00 p.m.). The Herd is looking for the two-game sweep after last night's 3-2 win in 10 innings. Buffalo is currently 2-3 on their season-long 11-game roadtrip. Today, the Herd will turn to LHP John Koronka. The southpaw collected his first win with the team on Friday against Charlotte. Pawtucket will counter with RHP David Pauley.
GO NORTH: All 33 of the Bisons remaining games are against International League North division teams. Buffalo's 29-18 record within the IL North is the best among the six teams. The Bisons are 7-3 against Pawtucket this year, having won the last seven games played in the season series.
FIRST BISONS WIN: LHP John Koronka earned his first win with the team thanks to a fantastic start on Friday. The southpaw threw seven innings of shutout baseball against the Knights in a 5-2 Bisons victory. He allowed six hits, but all of them were singles. Prior to joining the Herd on July 15, Koronka was 6-4 with a 4.41ERA in 14 games with Triple-A Oklahoma (Texas).
UN-COOPED: Outfielder Jason Cooper is on an extra-base hit tear. In his last four games, Cooper is 8-13 (.615) with seven of the hits going for extra-bases. In the span, he has four doubles, a triple, two homers and five RBI. The four-game stretch has raised his season slugging percentage 60 points from .419 to .479.
ALL-STAR SLUGGER: Ryan Mulhern keeps climbing up the IL Charts. A six-game hit streak (.526, 10-19) has raised his season batting average to .311. That's good for 4th in the International League. He also ranks T3rd in doubles (31), 5th in slugging percentage (.511) and T8th in RBI (61).
DUAL CLOSERS: The Bisons have two relievers with double-digit saves for the first time since 2001 (only 7th time in the Modern Era). Edward Mujica -now with Cleveland- leads the team with 13 while Mike Koplove collected his 10th last night. Koplove has posted a 1.38ERA in his last 13 outings (13.0IP, 11H, 2ER, 3BB, 13K).
