
Toledo Holds Off Knights

FORT MILL, S.C. - August 2, 2007 - Toledo held off a late inning rally by Charlotte and continued its winning ways as the Mud Hens won their 6th straight game 5-4 over the Charlotte Knights. Andres Torres got the Mud Hens on the board in the 1st whit his third triple of the season to bring home Henry Mateo, giving Toledo a 1-0 lead. Toledo would add one more run making it 2-0.
Kenny Perez got the Knights on the board with a solo shot in the bottom of the 1st. Mateo hit a solo shot of his own in the 5th to increase Toledo's lead to it 3-1. Trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the 9th with two outs and the bases loaded, Knights 3B Adam Ricks-playing in his second Triple-A game-hit a double to clear the bases and pull Charlotte within one run at 5-4. Ryan Smith grounded out to end the rally for the Knights.
Yorman Bazardo (9-5, 3.93) struck out three in 6 2/3 innings to get the win for the Mud Hens. Eduardo Sierra (1-2, 2.25) suffered his second loss of the season for the Knights.
The teams conclude their series on Friday at 6:15. Heath Phillips (9-7, 4.78) gets the start for the Knights. Virgil Vasquez (10-3, 3.71) will take the mound for the Mud Hens.
