Braves Lose a Close One

Richmond, VA - The Indianapolis Indians beat the Richmond Braves 4-3 at The Diamond Thursday. The Indians jumped out to a 4-0 lead and held off several late Richmond rallies to send the Braves down to their sixth loss in their last seven games.

The Indians took a 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI double by Brian Bixler. The Indians erupted for three more runs in the fifth to open up a 4-0 advantage. Bixler knocked in a run with a single and Jose Hernandez doubled two home. The Braves battled back with a run in the in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Wes Timmons. The Braves cut the Indians lead to 4-3 with a pair of runs in the seventh. Barbaro Canizares knocked one in with a sac fly and Timmons chased one home with a single. The Braves had the go-ahead run on base in the eighth and ninth but were turned away.

Michael Tejera earned the win. Moises Hernandez took the loss in his Triple-A debut. Frquelis Osoria notched a save. Hernandez and Bixler had two hits each for the Indians. Brent Lillibridge had two hits for Richmond.
