Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, Ill. - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs, have announced that infielder Tim Saunders has joined the Cougars from the Cubs' extended spring training complex in Mesa. Infielder David Bote has been transferred to Short-A Boise, which begins its season on Friday. As part of a rehabilitation stint, Cubs outfielder Ryan Sweeney remains on the Cougars' roster after playing in last night's game at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. Kane County concludes the first half of the season with a six-game road trip beginning in Peoria tonight at 7 p.m. Today's roster move maintains a Midwest League limit of 25 active players.

Saunders (32nd round draft pick, 2012) played in 36 games with Class-A Advanced Daytona this season, batting .210 with 2 home runs and 15 RBI. He endured an injury-plagued 2013 season, twice landing on Daytona's disabled list. The latter injury, a right elbow sprain, ended Saunders' season by early July. In 62 games last season, he batted .226 with 3 home runs and 27 RBI. Saunders has some Midwest League experience, having played in 20 games in 2012 with Class-A Peoria, which was a Cubs affiliate at the time.

Bote (18th round draft pick, 2012) was part of the Cougars' Opening Day roster this season and batted .217 in 38 games. He returns to Boise where, after a brief stint with the Cougars last spring, he batted .250 with 6 home runs and 31 RBI for the Hawks.
