
Palka's Two Homers Lift Hawks to 6-3 Win

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH)- Daniel Palka smashed two homeruns and the South Bend Silver Hawks defeated the Lake County Captains by a final of 6-3. Palka smacked a three-run homer in the sixth inning and then a two-run homer in the eighth. The five runs batted in sparked the victory for the Hawks. Palka now has nine homers on the season.
Lake County (24-41) blasted back-to-back homers in the first inning and Lake County had the early 2-0 lead. Clint Frazier hit his third homerun of the season and Eric Haase followed with his 12th. The Captains have hit back-to-back homers twice on the season. The Captains added a run in the second on an RBI single from Ivan Castillo. Lake County led 3-0.
With the score tied at 3-3 and two outs in the seventh, Zach Esquerra reached first on a catcher's interference. Ryan Gebhardt doubled him home and the Silver Hawks took the 4-3 lead. The Silver Hawks (38-26) never looked back.
RHP Mitch Brown (0-6) was on the bump for the Captains. Brown did not get a decision after pitching five shutout innings and allowing just one hit. Brown walked one and struck out four. Matt Whitehouse pitched one inning and allowed three earned runs on two hits, one walk and a strikeout. Whitehouse allowed the first homer to Palka. Wander Beras (2-1) took the loss. Beras pitched two innings and allowed two hits, three runs and two earned runs one walk and one strikeout. Beras allowed the second homer to Palka.
RHP Blayne Weller (3-3) started for South Bend and didn't get a decision. Weller pitched six innings and allowed three earned runs on five hits, he walked two and fanned seven. Weller allowed two homers. The South Bend bullpen did not allow a hit or a run. The win went to Bud Jeter (1-0) and the save to Silvino Bracho his tenth of the year.
The Captains will remain to South Bend, IN on Wednesday to continue a three game series with the South Bend Silver Hawks. The Captains will send RHP Jordan Milbrath (1-7, 3.36) and South Bend will counter with RHP Austin Platt (1-1, 6.39). First Pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM from Four Winds Field.
