INF Vechionacci Placed On Disabled List

(Binghamton, NY)- The Trenton Thunder, Double A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that INF Marcos Vechionacci has been placed on the disabled list. INF Carlos Mendoza has been transferred back to Trenton's roster from the roster of the Staten Island Yankees (New York-Penn).

Vechionacci had a .302 BA for the Thunder in 17 games so far this season. He had 8 RBI and 8 runs scored. Vechionacci got hurt running down to first base on an infield single in the 4th inning of Sunday's game at New Britain. He was replaced in the game after the play. Vechionacci had a four-game hitting streak after Sunday's game, and previously had a five-game hitting streak (4/5-4/8). In 2007, he hit .266 in 108 games for Tampa with 2 HR and 39 RBI. He played two regular season games for hte Thunder and also played for Trenton during the 2007 Eastern League Playoffs. He was signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on 8/26/02.

Mendoza has appeared in one game for the Thunder this season and was 1 x 3. Last season, he hit .210 for the Thunder in 84 games with 17 RBI. He was signed by the Yankees as a free agent 11/2/06.

The Thunder start a three-game series with the Binghamton Mets, Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets, on Monday night in Binghamton. Game time is set for 6:35 p.m. LHP Phil Coke (0-1, 7.07) will start for Trenton against Binghamton RHP Bobby Parnell (0-1, 5.40). Trenton returns home on Thursday to start a four-game series with the New Britain Rock Cats, the Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins.
