Bank of America Pitcher-Player of the Week Awards Announced

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the Major League Baseball Advanced Media selections for the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher and Player of the Week Awards for the week ending April 20th:
Altoona Curve outfielder James Boone has been named the Bank of America Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending April 20th. The 25-year old had an outstanding week for the Curve, hitting .524 (11-for-21) with two doubles, four home runs, eight runs scored, six RBI, five walks and a 1.190 slugging percentage in six games. With his four home runs last week Boone pushed his season total to five, which is currently tied for first in the league. He is also ranked second in the league in slugging percentage (.636). The 6'2", 199 lb. slugger had multiple hits in four games last week and hit the fourth inside-the-park home run in Altoona franchise history during a three-hit, two homer performance last Friday against Erie. James was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the third round of the 2005 draft after hitting .340 with 72 RBI during his junior season at the University of Missouri.

Chris Waters, a left-handed starting pitcher for the Bowie Baysox, is the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 20th. The 6'0", 170 lb. hurler made a pair of starts for the Baysox last week and was 2-0 with seven strikeouts and a 0.71 ERA in 12.2 innings pitched. In his first start of the week the 27-year old allowed just three base runners on one hit and two walks while striking out three batters in 5.2 shutout innings of work. Waters, a resident of East Point, Georgia, also got the win in his second start of the week, striking out four batters while giving up one run on four hits and one walk over seven innings. Chris has collected three wins for the Baysox this season, which is tied for the league lead, and his 0.87 ERA currently ranks sixth in the league. Waters signed with the Baltimore Orioles as a free agent on October 28, 2006 after spending the first seven years of his career with the Atlanta Braves, who selected him in the fifth round of the 2000 draft out of South Florida Community College.
