Indians Roll Past Hens in Landslide Win

Toledo Mud Hens News Release

Fans were treated to an offensive outburst at the hands of the enemy Thursday evening on 'American Gladiator Night' at Fifth Third field. Thad Weber took the ball for Toledo looking to get back in the win column as the right hander has taken a loss in each of his last four starts. A couple of solo home runs got things rolling early for the second place Indians, and the offense would coast after that in a landslide victory.

The real gladiator of the night took the bump for Indianapolis as left hander Steven Brault kept the Toledo offense quiet all evening long. The smooth throwing southpaw threw five scoreless innings, surrendering just four hits and striking out six.

Weber showed flashes of dominance as well in his start, but it was early long balls from two Indians that gave Brault all the offensive support he needed. In the top of the second Josh Bell put his 12th round tripper of the season over the left field wall to make the score 1-0 Indy. After retiring the side in the third, top prospect, Austin Meadows greeted Weber in the fourth with just his second Triple-A home run of his career over the '344' sign in right field.

Weber's night ended in the seventh after he was unable to record an out, allowing Indy to take a 3-0 and leaving three more runners on base that all came around to score. The veteran left after 6.0 IP, surrendering six runs on five hits with three punch outs.

After Weber's exit the Indians continued to pour it on as they sent twelve hitters to the plate and plated eight runs in the seventh inning off Weber, Ruben Alaniz, and Drake Britton. The frame was highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Pedro Florimon that extended the lead to 9-0.

Brault's outing was supported by solid relief from Trey Haley, and former Mud Hen Kyle Lobstein. Toledo was however able to break through in the bottom of the eighth for a run off the former Hen. After Chad Huffman drew a walk, John Hicks followed with a long double to center field, deep enough to allow Huffman to round the bases and score, making it 11-1. The two bagger was the backstop's 12th of the season.

A bright spot for the Hen pen on Thursday came from Angel Nesbitt who threw 2.0 innings allowing just one run and striking out three Indians.

The two teams are back in action and playing two on Friday as the first pitch of the double header is set for 5:30 PM.
