Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Luis Severino settled in after a rough first frame and the offense erupted late as the RailRiders blew out the Syracuse Chiefs (Washington Nationals) on Wednesday night, 11-2. The RailRiders posted their 17th win in 22 games to complete a three-game sweep. The Chiefs (36-42), who never held a lead in the series, suffered just their second home sweep of the season. Syracuse entered the series 24-16 at NBT Bank Stadium.

ALL-STAR SPECTACULAR: Yesterday, four RailRiders were elected to the Triple-A All-Star Game that will be played July 13 in Charlotte. Catcher Gary Sanchez, outfielders Ben Gamel and Aaron Judge and pitcher Chad Green helped SWB lead the IL with four of the 13 elected players by vote of field managers and general managers, media ballots and online fan voting.

UNDEFEATED: Severino (4-0) struck out eight over six innings of two-run ball. The team has gone 6-0 in his six starts this season.

JUDGMENT DAY: Judge went 2-for-5 with a walk and an RBI. He leads the team and ranks among the IL leaders in homers (1st, 16), RBIs (T-3rd, 47), slugging (4th, .488), extra-base hits (3rd, 31), total bases (2nd, 142) and runs scored (2nd, 49). He saw his batting average bottom out at .221 after an 0-for-3 day versus Columbus on June 2 during an 0-for-24 tailspin. Since then he has reached base in 23 of 25, going 34-for-92 with nine homers, 22 RBIs, 20 walks and 29 runs scored. In that time he has slashed .370/.491/.739/1.230. His season-long OBP has risen by 70 points (.285-.355) with over half of his overall walk total coming in this 25-game run. He now ranks among the IL's best in walks with 36 (T-6th). He has hit nine homers over his last 17 games played, seven in his last 11 and four in his last seven. He leads the team with six outfield assists.

AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE: Tyler Austin went 2-for-5 with a double, a walk and a run scored. On Friday at Pawtucket he slammed a career-best three big flies for the RailRiders, tying the SWB franchise record. He had eight doubles, four homers and 27 RBIs over 73 games played and 299 plate appearances with last year's RailRiders, slashing .235/.309/.311/.619. In 23 games and 98 plate appearances at Triple-A this season, he has 11 doubles, seven homers and 26 RBIs, slashing .322/.388/.690/1.077.

SOL MAN: Donovan Solano went 3-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored. An 0-for-4 day versus Charlotte on June 8 marked the end of a 3-for-39 slump that dropped his average to .259. In 19 games played since, he has gone 29-for-75 with 11 multi-hit games, slashing .387/.418/.573/.991 to spike his average back up to .293. Solano has posted multiple knocks in six of his last nine.

SIMPLY THE BEST: At 48-32 (.600), the RailRiders own the best record in Triple-A baseball. In fact, four of the six best records in Triple-A (and each of the top four in the IL) reside in the RailRiders' North Division. Buffalo and Rochester stand 2.0 games back of SWB at 46-34 while Lehigh Valley resides in fourth place at 45-35, 3.0 games out. The Bisons have won an MiLB-best nine straight games. Syracuse is the only squad in the six-team North that owns a losing record.

ROAD WARRIORS: The RailRiders own the IL's best road record at 27-14 (.659). They stand on pace to win 47 games away from NEPA. That would surpass the franchise record of 45 set by Marc Bombard's 2002 Red Barons who won 91 total games with players like Chase Utley, Marlon Byrd, Brett Myers and Joe Roa. At PNC Field, SWB has slashed .254/.315/.386/.701 while scoring 4.0 runs/game. On the road, the team has slashed .274/.347/.422/.769 while scoring 5.2 runs/game.

OFF THE RAILS: Yesterday's nine-run margin tied as the RailRiders' most lopsided win of the year (May 5, 10-1 at LHV)...The pitching staff amassed 16 strikeouts, a new zenith in a nine-inning game during the RailRiders era...Jonathan Diaz belted his first home run as a RailRider, a two-run pull job to left...It marked his first dinger since July 9, 2015 as Buffalo's starting shortstop at Rochester...He has hit 18 home runs over 1,078 career MiLB games...SWB earned its fifth sweep of the season and fourth on the road...Former RailRider Luis Cessa got his first MLB win last night as the Yankees beat the Texas Rangers.
