Clippers Blast IronPigs to Complete Sweep
June 30, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release
Riding another strong outing from starting pitching and scoring runs early and often, Columbus (43-37) downed Lehigh Valley (45-35) by a final of 5-2 on Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA., completing the three game sweep in front of a gathering of 8,350.
Clippers right-hander Mike Clevinger (8-0) threw six innings, allowing an earned run on six hits while walking a batter and striking out six.
His opposition in fellow righty David Buchanan (4-5) went five and 1/3 innings, giving up five earned runs on eight hits. He walked one and fanned five.
Just as he did in last night's affair with the IronPigs, Clippers first baseman Jesus Aguilar got his team on the board with a groundout to third base, plating short stop Erik Gonzalez in the first inning.
Michael Choice launched a ball deep over the right field wall for his fifth home run of the season in the second inning, and Adam Moore had an RBI double in the third to give Columbus a 3-0 advantage.
Joey Butler went yard for the seventh time in the 2016 campaign the next inning, and the Clippers would carry that offense through the rest of the night for the win.
Austin Adams collected his fifth save of the season, working a scoreless ninth.
The two city, seven game road trip changes scenery for Columbus tomorrow night as the Clippers visit McCoy Stadium to take on Pawtucket for the first time this season. First pitch for game one of the four game series with the Red Sox is set for 7:05 p.m. tomorrow night. Right-hander Will Roberts (6-5, 4.24 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Clippers against fellow righty Sean O'Sullivan (6-2, 2.79 ERA).
