Indians Get Back on Track with 7-4 Win Over Bears
June 29, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release
Spokane, WA-Santo Perez (2-0) delivered just what the Indians needed to break their four game losing streak-a strong performance from a starting pitcher. After getting just three innings from Victor Payano the night before, the tall, right-handed Perez went six solid innings in his third consecutive quality start, allowing just two runs on four hits. The Indians defense clamped down in support of their pitcher, committing only one error, and Spokane's lineup continued its torrid hitting.
The Indians offense came into the game second in the Northwest League in team batting average, and showed no signs of slowing down. Tonight against the Bears and starter Adam Kudryk (0-2), Spokane scored seven runs on thirteen hits, including four that went for extra bases. Trever Adams extended his hitting streak to six games, Brett Nicholas went 2-3 with 3 RBI's, and Zach Cone, Carson Vitale, and Edwin Garcia all chipped in with two hits a piece.
Matt West picked up his first save of the season in the victory, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings, and striking out two Bears batters with a fastball that touched 95 mph.
