June 29, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Tri-City Dust Devils News Release
The Tri-City Dust Devils evened their series against their division-rival Boise Hawks Wednesday night in front of 2,718 in attendance at Gesa Stadium. Five different Dust Devils drove home their five runs as they went on to win 5-3.
Tri-City (7-6) starter Ricardo Ferrer worked four innings and got a no-decision as he did well in mostly damage-control situations. He allowed eight hits and struck out four while allowing just one Hawks run. Dust Devils' reliever Rhett Ballard (2-0) got the win, his second of the season, going two innings in which he allowed one run on no hits and three walks.
Hawks (8-5) starting pitcher Jin-Young Kim (1-2) was tagged with his second loss of the season as he struggled with his command. Kim went just one inning, walking three and allowing two runs on four hits. Boise relievers Hector Mayora and Austin Reed didn't fare much better, allowing a combined three runs in their seven innings of relief.
The Tri-City lineup showed an impressive well rounded attack at the plate, with five different players each driving in a run. Infielders Tim Smalling, Jordan Ribera, David Hernandez and Jeffrey Squier as well as catcher Ryan Casteel drove in one run apiece. Smalling led the team in hits on the night, going 3-for-4 and improving his season batting average to .282.
Thursday night is Tobacco Free Night as well as Dollars in Your Dog Night, meaning with every purchase of a hot dog at Gesa Stadium you have a chance to win cash! Dust Devils' starter Tyler Gagnon will be facing off against lefty Willengton Cruz of Boise with a 7:15 p.m. start time.
