Tri-City Dust Devils News Release
Two of the top seven Colorado Rockies draft picks in the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft will be playing at Gesa Stadium this season, as fifth round pick Taylor Featherston and sixth round pick Chris Jensen were assigned to the Dust Devils.
Fifth-round pick Taylor Featherston played shortstop for the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs the last three seasons and put up some impressive numbers. In his 180-game career he batted .331 with 16 home runs, 122 runs batted in and 166 runs scored. He was named Second-team All-Mountain West Conference his freshman season and First-team All-Mountain West Conference each of his last two seasons. In 2010, when the Horned Frogs went to the College World Series, Featherston stood out, being named MVP of the NCAA Fort Worth Regional and making the 2010 College World Series All-Tournament Team.
Jensen, a six-foot-four-inch right-hander from Gilbert, Ariz. played three seasons at the University of San Diego where he gained experience both as a starter and reliever. His sophomore season in 2010, mostly as a reliever, Jensen had a 3.23 earned run average in 23 appearances. His junior year, in 2011, he started 12 of his 18 appearances and had a 3.95 earned run average over 82 innings of work.
The Dust Devils will also welcome Rockies' 33rd round pick Jaron Shepherd from Mississippi State University. The 2011 draft was his third time being drafted, the other two times coming in 2008 and 2009. An outfielder, Shepherd batted .295 last season in 52 games for the Bulldogs. He also had an on-base percentage of .403 and a fielding percentage of .973.
