
Identical Scores, But Different Outcomes as Lexington Splits Double Header with Asheville

MCCORMICK PARK (Asheville, NC) - After postponing Monday and Tuesday nights' games, the Lexington Legends split the doubleheader against the Asheville Tourists on Wednesday night. The Legends took game one, 12-2 and then Tourists turned around and beat the Legends in game two, 12-2.
In game one, the Legends plated their first run in the first inning. Cal Jones reached on a leadoff walk then advanced to second when Travis Jones reached first on an error by the shortstop. Seuly Matias then hit a sacrifice fly to right field, and the Legends led 1-0.
The Legends added two more runs in the top of the second. Sebastian Rivero reached on a leadoff double to right field then advanced to third when Oliver Nunez advanced to first on an error. A sacrifice fly by Cal Jones plated Rivero then Nunez scored on a double to right field by Matias and Lexington led, 3-0.
In the fourth, the Legends broke the game wide open. Cal Jones, Travis Jones, Nick Pratto and Seuly Matias reached on four straight singles. With the bases loaded, Jeison Guzman lined one up the middle, scoring Travis Jones and Pratto, moving Matias to third. Matias and Guzman scored on a pickoff error to third base by the catcher, Hidekel Gonzalez. The Legends scored six runs on six hits and led 10-1.
The Tourists plated two runs in game one, both were solo home runs. Ramon Marcelino blasted one over the right field wall in the second inning and Casey Golden sent his out of the park in the seventh inning.
In game two, it was Asheville that scored first. In the bottom of the second, Sean Bouchard singled to left field then moved to third on a single by Chad Spanberger. Spanberger swiped second to put runners in scoring position. Tyler Snyder lined a double up the middle, clearing the bases, and bringing in the first two runs of the game for Asheville.
In the third, the Tourists blasted three home runs, courtesy of Bret Boswell, Casey Golden and Bouchard. Heading into the fourth, the Tourists led 5-0.
The Legends scored their first run of the game in the top of the fourth after Vance Vizcaino reached on a leadoff walk then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Jeison Guzman singled up the middle to move Vizcaino to third. He was able to score on a sacrifice fly by Rivero.
Asheville continued to score in the bottom of the fourth. After recording two quick outs, Steven Linkous reached on a single then advanced to second on a throwing error from the pitcher, Holden Capps. Boswell reached first on an infield single. Golden then smashed his second home run of the game over the left field fence and the Tourists led, 9-1.
The Tourists would sprinkle in three more home runs throughout the rest of the game from Boswell, Spanberger, and Golden. Bowell and Golden both had two home runs against the Legends in game two.
Brewer Hicklen had his first home run of the season for the Legends, leading off the top of the sixth inning.
Garrett Davila (1-1, 2.89 ERA) was awarded the win for the Legends in game one and Nick Kennedy (0-2, 8.79 ERA) was given the loss. In game two, Robert Tyler (1-0, 1.80 ERA) earned the win for the Tourists and Collin Snider (1-2, 6.62 ERA) got the loss.
The same two teams meet tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. for the series finale at McCormick Field in Asheville, North Carolina. The Legends will be back at Whitaker Bank Ballpark on Friday, April 27 to face the West Virginia Power at 7:05 p.m. as part of a three-game series in Lexington.
