CHARLESTON, S.C. - The RiverDogs and Fireflies went to extra innings for the second straight night, with Charleston loading the bases with no outs but failing to capitalize in the 10th, falling 6-5 in front of a crowd of 2,842 on Wednesday night at Joe Riley Park.

After two unearned runs were charged to Luis Cedeno (0-1) in the top half of the 10th, Leonardo Molina started the bottom half on second base because of Minor League Baseball's new pace of play rules. After Jason Lopez's RBI knock to left scored Molina, and David Metzgar became the second hit batter of the inning, the RiverDogs (9-11) had the bags loaded with the tying run on third and winning run on second.

A strikeout and a pair of fly outs from Trey Cobb ended the game. The stranded runners in the 10th were three of 13 Dogs left on in the defeat.

Charleston gave lefty starter Dalton Lehnen the nod, and the former sixth round pick dealt five innings, allowing four hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out six.

At the plate, eight of the nine RiverDogs in the lineup picked up base hits, including five players who had multi-hit games. Catcher Jason Lopez finished 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI. The Venezuelan catcher is 5-for-9 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored in his last two games.

Right fielder Steven Sensley had a pair of hits, one being an RBI single to score Oswaldo Cabrera, as well as a sacrifice fly. Sensley raised his batting average to .304 in the effort.

Because the first run of extra innings went unearned and an error led to the sixth and final Columbia (12-8) tally, Luis Cedeno became the second RiverDogs pitcher to take a loss with a season ERA of 0.00.

Ballpark Fun

The RiverDogs kicked it old school by rocking some killer throwback '94 unis on a "Way Back Wednesday" presented by Kirkman Broadcasting. Late 20th century hits could be heard around the yard, and a special appearance was made by former RiverDog Seth McClung, who ranks second all-time in RiverDogs history in strikeouts. The former MLB reliever pitched with the Dogs in 2000-01 and made a rehab assignment to Charleston in 2004. McClung pitched in six seasons with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Milwaukee Brewers between 2003 and 2009.

Upcoming

The RiverDogs will fight for the series win on Thursday in the finale with Columbia. Citadel product JP Sears will make his Joe Riley Park professional debut. The southpaw will be up against righty Tony Dibrell (0-1, 7.53). The game will be broadcast on 1250 WTMA in the tri-county area with online streaming audio also available worldwide on riverdogs.com, through the RiverDogs TuneIn radio app, and on MiLB.TV.

RiverDogs single-game tickets, including options to the Riley Park Club, are now available for the 2018 campaign, the club's 25th season as the RiverDogs and their "175th season in dog years." Ticket information can be secured by contacting the box office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647) or online at www.riverdogs.com/tickets.
