
'Dads and Hoppers Split Double Header

Hickory, NC- The Hickory Crawdads and Greensboro Grasshoppers split a doubleheader today, winning the morning game 4-1 but dropping the second 2-1.
Crawdads righty Tyler Phillips took the hill for the first game, pitching a complete game, allowing one run, no walks, and striking out four across seven frames. All four Crawdads runs came in the fifth off Grasshoppers starter Brandon Miller. The rally kicked off on a single by shortstop Yonny Hernandez, who advanced to second on a throwing error. Left fielder Eric Jenkins singled Hernandez in to tie the game at one a piece. Jenkins stole second base for his ninth steal of the game and put himself in scoring position. Right fielder Miguel Aparicio hit the 'Dads third straight single to put the 'Dads ahead 2-1. Second baseman Ryan Dorow capped of the scoring with a two-run shot to left center field.
The second game kicked off half an hour after the first game finished. Right hander Tyree Thompson got the start for the Crawdads, throwing five innings and yielding two runs in the fifth. All four hits allowed by Thompson were doubles. The 'Dads lone run came in the bottom of the third on a double by Aparicio that scored third baseman Tyler Ratliff.
The 'Dads and Grasshoppers are slated for another double header tomorrow. The first game is scheduled for a 2pm start while the second game will start no earlier than the originally scheduled time of 7pm. The same ticket will be good for both Thursday games. Tomorrow will be the Crawdads NFL Draft Party so fans who wear an NFL jersey will get a free ticket to the game. It is also Thirsty Thursday which means discounted beer and Pepsi products during both games. DJ Curtis Brown will be this week's Thirsty Thursday Band Presented by Cody Law Firm.
