Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Wednesday's doubleheader at Fluor Field went the way of the Augusta GreenJackets, as they slugged their way to a 9-2 victory in game one while shutting down the Greenville Drive 3-0 in the nightcap.
Augusta (13-6) did all of their damage in the opener in a pair of innings. A four-run second inning was keyed by a three-run homer from John Riley and a solo homer from Rob Calabrese off Hunter Haworth (0-3).
The next inning saw five runs come in, and it was a three-run homer from Heliot Ramos that ended Haworth's afternoon.
The Drive (3-17) plated their first run in the second inning when Pedro Castellanos singled leading off the frame and came in on a single by Kervin Suarez.
Marino Campana smacked a solo homer to left-center in the bottom of the fifth for the Drive's final run of either game.
Denyi Reyes (2-1) took the loss in game two for the Drive despite striking out 10 Augusta hitters in four innings, which marked the third highest single-game total in team history.
Ramos led off the top of the first with a single and came home on a single by Ryan Kirby to put the GreenJackets ahead. A solo homer by Malique Ziegler in the fourth inning made the score 2-0, and a run scored on a double play in the seventh to cap the scoring.
The series against Augusta wraps up on Thursday night at 7:05 at Fluor Field. The Drive will look to end their 12-game losing skid with right-hander Nick Duron (0-3, 8.25 on the mound), and the GreenJackets are scheduled to start right-hander Aaron Phillips.
