
IceMen Bumped by Rallying Komets

FORT WAYNE, Ind.- The Evansville IceMen, presented by Coors Light, held a 3-1 lead over the Fort Wayne Komets after two periods. However, a trio of third period goals helped the first place Komets (35-12-1-3, 74 points) past the IceMen (13-33-4-2, 32 points) to a 4-3 win.
Branden Komm made a season high 47 saves for the IceMen in the loss. Fort Wayne outshot Evansville 20-3 in the final period.
After dominating, the Federal Hockey League, it took less than 10 minutes for Justin MacDonald to find the back of the net in his ECHL debut. MacDonald stole the puck in the Fort Wayne zone and rocketed a shot into the back of the net to give the IceMen a 1-0.
Just one day removed from his 25th birthday, Dan Sova fired a shot from the blue line. Roman Will made the save, but Braden Pimm crashed the net and slammed in his first IceMen goal in his Evansville debut. Pimm's 19th assist of the season also had an assist from Danny Hobbs. Sova earned his first ECHL point on the play that made it a 2-0 IceMen lead after one.
After Komm made an amazing save on Christian Ouellet., the Komets scored on the ensuing faceoff. Cody Sol netted a shot form the blue line to cut the IceMen lead to 2-1 early in the second period.
With the Komets on a power play, Fort Wayne looked to tie things up, but Danny Hobbs had other ideas. Hobbs stole the puck and drove into the offensive end on a back away. Hobbs rifled a shot into the back of the net to make it a 3-1 IceMen lead. The short handed strike was Hobbs' fifth of the season and gave the IceMen a two goal lead after two.
The Komets rallied with three goals in the final period. William Lacasse cut the lead to one. With under five minutes to play in the third, Christian Ouellet tied it. Exactly two minutes later, Matthew Pistilli scored the game winner.
Hobbs led the way for the IceMen with a goal and an assist. Sova and Brandon Martell each finished +1 to lead IceMen defenseman.
On Saturday night, the IceMen will finally return to home ice for the first time in three weeks when the host the Cincinnati Cyclones at 7:15 p.m. It will be Hockey Across America night where fans will be encouraged to wear their favorite hockey team 's (IceMen) jersey to Saturday's game. Fans in jerseys can visit the sales to get a raffle ticket and a chance to win fabulous prizes.
Plus the IceMen will auction off their Ottawa Senators Heritage jerseys in a live post-game auction. Fans will also have a chance to bid on player designed Teddy Bears in a silent auction held during the game.
