Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs won their second straight game Friday night, with a 6-2 win over the visiting Sarnia Sting, outshooting them 30-24 on the night.
The IceDogs were ready to put together a string of wins Friday night against the Sarnia Sting after their win in the night previous against Mississauga. They opened the scoring in eye popping fashion when Graham Knott pulled off an unbelievable toe drag, and then dropped it back to Perlini who buried his 7th of the year into the open cage. The Sting would go on to tie it later in the frame but the home team fought back, on goals from Christopher Paquette, with his first of the year and Jordan Maletta to take a 3-1 lead. Sarnia would bring it within one goal again, but Paquette would put the Dogs back up by two, with his 2nd of the night and, to cap off a high scoring opening frame. The shots on goal favoured the IceDogs 8-6 in the period.
The second period was a different story as neither team could find the back of the net. Shots were even at 11 each in the period, and the goaltending was strong at both ends. The IceDogs did manage to kill off a Sarnia 5-on-3 powerplay in the period, and were the closest to getting one on the scoreboard when Vince Dunn rang a late period slap shot off the post, while the team was on the powerplay.
The IceDogs came out in the third ready to finish the game off strong. They showed great effort in the period, winning a majority of puck battles and giving the opposition no space in their end. The highlight of the period, would come while the game was still 4-2 as starting goaltender Brent Moran robbed a Sarnia forward of an empty net, diving back and flashing the leather for possibly the games' most crucial moment. The IceDogs would build on the momentum of the save as Nick Pastorious won a hard fought battle in front of the net, and banged home a loose puck to give the team a three goal lead, 6:23 into the final frame. Maletta went on to score his second of the game and team leading 8th of the season, just over five minutes later, to put the game out of Sarnia's reach and give the home side a 6-2 victory. The IceDogs would outshoot the Sting 11-7 in the final frame, to finish off the game.
The three stars on the night went to Maletta, Perlini, and Paquette. The trio combined for eight points in the contest and helped lead the squad to their second straight win.
The IceDogs will now travel to North Bay on Sunday to visit the Battalion, and are back home to face the Windsor Spitfires, next Thursday, November 5th. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations for all IceDogs home games.
