Brampton Steelheads News Release

St. Catharines, ON - The Steelheads visited the Niagara IceDogs Thursday night for their first of five matchups during the 2015-16 regular season. The Steelheads entered tonight's game coming off a 4-2 win over the North Bay Battalion, while the IceDogs were looking to bounce back following a 3-2 loss to the Kingston Frontenacs.

It would be a busy first period at the Meridian Centre as Alex Nylander opened the scoring at 1:50 of the first to give the Steelheads an early lead. Josh Burnside picked up the assist on Nylander's 9th of the season. With Aaron Haydon in the box serving two for a check from behind, Nylander would strike again to extend the Steelheads lead 2-0 approaching the midway point of the opening frame. Daniel Muzito-Bagenda and Sean Day picked up the helpers on Nylanders power play marker. Niagara would then come back with three unanswered goals from Mikkel Aagaard, Brendan Perlini, and Anthony DiFrusica to give the IceDogs a 3-2 lead heading into the first intermission. Shots on goal in the first were 17-5 in favour of the IceDogs.

The goaltenders were the main story in the second period as none of the 24 total shots managed to find the back of the net. The IceDogs controlled the play and managed to outshoot the Steelheads, 15-9 in the frame.

Steelheads goaltender, Jack Flinn continued to keep the Trout in the game, making a number of key saves to keep things within reach. With Nathan Bastian serving two minutes for interference, the IceDogs would capitalize on the man-advantage as Josh Ho-Sang netted the IceDogs second power play goal with just over three minutes left in the game. The three stars of the game all went to the IceDogs,' Perlini, Ho-Sang, and DiFruscia.

The Steelheads return home Friday, October 30 to host the Hamilton Bulldogs at 7:30 pm at the Hershey Centre.
