Ice Pilots play hard but fall to South Carolina 6-4

The Pensacola Ice Pilots surrendered four third period goals and fell to the South Carolina Stingrays 6-4 in Charleston on Saturday night.

The Ice Pilots finished off a four game road trip with a .500 mark of 2-2-0-0 and could have easily been over the .500.

The third period the Ice Pilots gave up two power play goals, one even strength and one in the empty net. The two power play goals were both while the Stingrays were on 5 on 3s.

In the first period, Ice Pilots roared out with two goals in the first 5:21 as Dwayne Hay scored from Travis Lisabeth and Mike Wirll and then Nikita Korovkin on the power play from Wirll and Hay.

South Carolina rallied late in the first period with a goal from Evan Schwabe to make it 2-1 and then it rained teddy bears and stuffed animals as the Stingrays held their annual Teddy Bear toss.

In the second period, South Carolina tied the game when Peter Szabo tallied off a turnover, but Pensacola quickly re-took the lead 1:02 later when Colin Hemingway scored his first of two from Adam Taylor and Brent Henley.

Hemingway notched is second of the game on a wicked slap shot at 9:03 of the second from Greg Watson and Jason Goulet to make it 4-2.
