Ice Pilots blast Lynx in 5-1 win

January 29, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release

Aaron Phillips' first period hat trick jump-started the Pensacola Ice Pilots to a 5-1 win over the Augusta Lynx on Saturday night at the Pensacola Civic Center.

Pensacola exploded out of the gate in the first period at 1:01 when Aaron Phillips kicked things off with a goal from Tyler Beechey and Ryan Stokes. The goal, which came on only the second shot of the game, saw Matus Kostur sent into the contest in relief of Jason Saal, who made one save and allowed one goal. Kostur was greeted in similar fashion to Saal when Phillips scored his second of the period with a shorthanded marker at 5:11 from Beechey. Beechey would then jump on the goal scoring side of things with an even strength goal at 10:04 from Stokes, followed by Phillips completing the hat trick with a power play goal at 19:13 from Beechey and Corey Neilson for a 4-0 lead after one period of play.

Augusta finally dented the scoreboard on a Matt Dzieduszycki wraparound attempt that deflected off a skate in front of the Ice Pilots net and eluded Todd Ford at 5:18 of the second period to make it 4-1. Louis Goulet and Jamie Johnson collected the assists on what turned out to be Augusta's only goal of the game. David Turon would complete the game's scoring at 17:40 of the middle frame from Alex Materukhin for a 5-1 final.

Kostur finished with 28 saves in the contest while Ford earned the win with 23 stops. The Lynx now drop to 14-23-5 on the year, and will next play in Florida against the Everblades on Tuesday night before returning home for a weekend return series with the Everblades at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center. Tickets are on sale for all remaining Lynx games through the team's offices at 712 Telfair St. in Augusta by calling (706) 724-4ICE, or through all TicketMaster locations and on line at www.TicketMaster.com.
