Idaho Steelheads News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Idaho Steelheads took an early lead, but three consecutive power play goals by Alaska in the second period, led to the Aces 6-3 win at Sullivan Arena Friday night.

The Aces put the first point on the board at 6:38 of the game from Ryan Moren. Idaho's Scott Burt answered back at 15:08 to knot the game. Idaho's tally came with an extra attacker as the Aces had a delayed penalty coming. With 13-seconds remaining in the period, Bobby Russell found the back of the net on the power play, giving the Steelheads a one-goal lead.

The middle frame belonged to the Aces as they scored three power play goals on the second-best penalty kill in the league in a span of 3:35. Idaho had a two-minute minor called against them, immediately followed by a five-minute major, leaving Idaho with a two-man deficit for two-minutes and down a man for three. ECHL leading goal-scorer Chris Minard took advantage of the opportunity with two goals sandwiched around a Charles Linglet tally. At the end of two, Alaska had outshot Idaho 22-20.

Scott Gomez scored quickly, 1:10 in the third period. Linglet got the puck out in front of the net to Gomez who was parked on the doorstep and easily beat Idaho's netminder Frank Doyle. The Aces 5th goal on the night prompted head coach John Olver to make a goalie change, and Colin Zulianello replaced Doyle. Brett Draney scored just 1:41 later, as he went in on Peter Aubry alone and put in a backhander.

The two teams continue the three-game series with Game 2 tomorrow night. The game can be heard live beginning at 9:00 p.m. MST on ESPN Radio 1350 KTIK with Britt Talbert calling the action. In addition, a live webcast link is available through www.idahosteelheads.com.
