Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Despite a number of opportunities in the final period, the Ice Dogs (23-41-5) couldn't keep up with Alaska (36-27-5), losing 5-1 in front of 3,395 Sunday night at the Long Beach Arena. Ice Dog left winger Jerome Marois scored just 37seconds into the second period off a pass from Mike Ouellet to pull the Dogs within a goal, but that would be as close as Long Beach got to the Aces the rest of the way.

Alaska jumped out to an early two-goal lead after the opening period, the first coming after defender Jonathan Gauthier fooled Ice Dog goalkeeper David Burleigh (1-5-0) at 7:48. Forward Bret DeCecco put the Aces in front by two, beating Burleigh upstairs after skating in from the left side of the net at 14:53.

Marois closed the gap in the second period, but Alaska answered with a goal from Charles Linglet at 4:23.

The third frame began with an Ice Dog power play, but Aces goaltender Dan Murphy (25-20-3) held his ground for the rest of the night. Murphy survived a rush of Ice Dog shots at the 12 and 10 minute marks, and Alaska increased its lead at 13:04, when defender Louis Mass slapped one into the net from just inside the blue line. The Aces finished with a power play goal from Wes Dorey at 18:18, making the final score 5-to-1.
