Alaska Aces News Release
LONG BEACH, Calif. â The Alaska Aces took control from the outset with two first period goals and rolled to a 5-1 victory over the Ice Dogs Sunday in front of 3,395 at Long Beach Arena.
Jonathan Gauthier tracked down an errant centering pass and snapped home a wrist shot from the right circle 7:28 into the first period. Bret DeCecco's second effort led to Alaska's second goal, as his blocked centering pass came right back onto his stick, leading to a wrister from deep in the left circle that beat Long Beach goaltender David Burleigh at the 14:53 mark.
The Ice Dogs got on the board when Jerome Marois scored on a rebound just 37 seconds into the second period, but the Aces regained their two-goal lead when Charles Linglet converted a 2-on-1 for his 18th goal of the year at 4:23 of the middle frame, leaving the score 3-1 after 40 minutes. Alaska outshot Long Beach 14-7 in the second period and permitted the hosts only 14 shots through the first two stanzas.
Defenseman Louis Mass ended the competitive phase of the game when he beat Burleigh from just inside the blue line with a wrist shot at 13:04 of the final period for his second goal of the year. Wes Dorey capped the scoring five minutes later by tipping in a Gauthier drive from the point with Alaska on the power play. Dan Murphy stopped 22 of 23 shots to earn his 25th victory of the year, while Burleigh was saddled with the loss, allowing five goals on 33 shots.
Alaska, now 36-27-5 overall and within a game of the .500 mark on the road, travels to Fresno for a Tuesday match-up with the Falcons, who play at home against San Diego Monday night. All remaining games, including playoffs, will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM, as well as www.alaskaaces.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
Alaska Aces playoff tickets are on sale now, with the first home game scheduled for Friday, April 9, at 7:00 p.m. against the San Diego Gulls, which will be Game Three of a best-of-five first round series in the Pacific Division. Game Four, if necessary, will be played at Sullivan Arena Saturday, April 10, at 7:00 p.m. For all playoff-related inquiries, as well as information pertaining to the purchase of 2004-05 season tickets, please call 258-ACES.
