
Ice Pilots defeat Wildcatters, 9-6

Beaumont, TX (March 28, 2004) - Pensacola defeated the Texas Wildcatters 9-6 in the final meeting at Ford Arena Sunday night. The two teams combined for an ECHL season high 15 goals. Tyler Beechey opened up the scoring for Pensacola at the 5:30 mark of the opening period as he intercepted a pass in the Texas end and tallied his 22nd goal of the season. The Wildcatters responded two minutes later as Mark Jackson tipped in a Lukas Smital shot for his fifth goal of the season. Martin Masa was credited with the second assist on the goal. Beechey gave the Ice Pilots the lead less than two minutes later as he scored his second goal of the night. Beechey recorded his first hat trick of the season at the 17:50 mark of the same period as he took a centering pass from Andreas Holmqvist for his 24th goal of the year.
Rob Davidson cut the Ice Pilots lead to one at the 1:11 mark of the second period as he tallied his first goal of the year on an Adam Stefishen rebound. Rae Metz also assisted on the goal. Less than two minutes later, Beechey struck once again with his fourth goal of the game to give the Ice Pilots a two-goal advantage. The Wildcatters took advantage of a 5-on-3 power play as Cory Morgan scored a pair of goals to tie the game at four. Smital and Jackson assisted on the first power-play goal and Ryan Fultz and Clint Cabana assisted on the second. Brett Gibson would answer back three minutes later with a power-play goal from Brian Collins and Corey Neilson to regain the lead for Pensacola. Texas tied the game at five with 32 seconds left in the middle stanza with Jackson's second goal of the night from Masa and Smital.
Stefishen gave the Wildcatters their only lead of the game early in the third period with his third goal of the season from Jackson and Ashlee Langdone. Pensacola would rally with four power play goals on six opportunities in the third for the victory. Aaron Phillips had a pair of goals, including the game tying goal. Dwayne Hay netted the game winner on his own rebound for his 28th goal of the season. Texas finished the night 2/2 on the man advantage while Pensacola was 5/9.
