Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LAKEWOOD, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs got their first chance Friday night to see what they were all about when they took on a much improved Las Vegas Wranglers team. The result was a hard fought win with plenty of room for improvement.

It was Long Beach that struck first, getting a late first period goal by Jeff Drummond, one of three University of Denver players in training camp. He redirected a shot past Marc Magliarditi in front of the net by Jason Sessa to give Long Beach the 1-0 lead.

Las Vegas tied the score midway through the second period when Thomas Bellemare put the puck past Ice Dogs goalie Greg Hewitt. Adam Huxley assisted on the play. With just 15 second remaining in the second period, Chris Stanley fired a one-time pass from Shawn Limpright to give the Wranglers a 2-1 lead heading into the third.

The Ice Dogs seemed to own the third period, tying the score just 39 seconds in with a wraparound goal by Chris Busby on rookie goalie Mike McKenna. The game remained tied after a five minute overtime, forcing the game into a shootout. Ash Goalie was the hero on the final shootout attempt, scoring to give the Ice Dogs the 3-2 win.

The Ice Dogs will travel to Las Vegas on Sunday to play the Wranglers in their final preseason game before heading to Idaho to open the season with a three game series against the Steelheads.

Opening night is Friday, October 28th, versus the Fresno Falcons at 7:30 PM. Season tickets for the 2005-06 season are on sale now, and can be secured by depositing just $100 per seat. Call (562) ICE-DOGS for visit www.icedogs.com for more information.
