Trevor Cunning Shines in Pre-Season Win

Pensacola, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots won their preseason opener last night 2-1 in an eight round shootout vs. Gwinnett at the Pensacola Civic Center. Goalie Trevor Cunning stopped 48 out of 49 shots and 6 out of 8 in the shootout.

Dallas Steward starting the scoring for the Ice Pilots at the 7:45 mark of the first period with assists to Dominic Noel and Jay Dopaco. Gwinnett tied the game at the 11:40 mark of the first period on a power play goal by Ryan Fultz assisted by Scott Mifsud and Steve Slaton.

There wasn't anymore scoring until the shootout which lasted eight rounds. Dallas Steward, Matt Turek and Dominic Noel scored for the Ice Pilots in the shootout. Brad Schell and Derek Nesbitt scored for Gwinnett.

The Ice Pilots had 30 shots on goal, 16 penalty minutes and went 0-5 on the power play. Gwinnett had 49 shots on goal, 10 penalty minutes and went 1-8 on the power play. Trevor Cunning was the winning goalie for the Ice Pilots.

The Ice Pilots will play Gwinnett again tomorrow night in their final preseason game at the Pensacola Civic Center at 7:05 p.m. Prices of tickets are $11 for lower level seats and $6 for upper level seats.

The Ice Pilots will begin their tenth anniversary season at home on Friday, October 21 vs. Greenville at 7:05 p.m. and play home to Gwinnett on Saturday, October 22 at 7:05 p.m. Fans can purchase individual game tickets in person at the Civic Center box office, at any Ticketmaster location, charge by phone at 434-7444 or through the Ice Pilots website at www.icepilots.com.
