
Gladiators Beat Pensacola 6-3 in final pre season game

The Gwinnett Gladiators used goals from six different scorers to beat the Pensacola Ice Pilots 6-3 in Gwinnett's last pre season game of the 2005-06 season. Pensacola jumped out to a 1-0 lead on their first shot of the game as Aaron Lewicki beat Gladiators netminder Tuomas Tarkki to the far post for the tally. Dominic Noel and Nick Lindberg picked up the assists on the goal. Jared Ross equalized the contest 34 seconds later scoring Gwinnett's first goal, ripping a snapshot from the right wing faceoff circle past Trevor Cunning. Matt York picked up the assist on the goal. Dallas Steward capitalized on a defensive breakdown in front of Tarkki giving the Ice Pilots their second goal of the contest and a 2-1 lead. Steward posted the unassisted goal at 2:08 of the first period. Chris Durno rolled the puck past Cunning from a bad angle along the goal line at the 7:53 mark of the first period to tie the game at 2-2. Steve Slaton and Scott Kelman picked up the assists on the goal. The Gladiators took a 3-2 lead on the power play at 10:32 of the first period on a goal by Pascal Pelletier as he buried home a rebound in the slot. Derek Nesbitt and Jared Ross posted the assists on the goal. Brad Fraser's slap shot from the high slot pushed the Gladiators lead to 4-2 before the close of the first period. Jason Deitsch and Ryan Fultz picked up the assists on the goal. Gwinnett took a 5-2 lead early in the second period with a shorthanded goal 23 seconds into the second period off the stick of Lane Manson. With Josh Bennett in the box nine seconds into the second period, Manson picked up a rebound on the off wing and beat Cunning. Derek Nesbitt posted an assist on the goal. Dominic Noel cut the Gladiators lead back to two goals jamming the puck past Tarkki at 8:24 of the third period. Matt Turek and Dallas Stewart picked up the assists on the goal. Ryan Fultz closed out the scoring pushing the Gladiators lead back to three goals with his second tally of the pre season on the power play. Durno and Kelman picked up the assists on the goal for the Gladiators. Tuomas Tarkki finished with 26 saves for the Gladiators while Trevor Cunning made 48 for the Ice Pilots in the loss. Both teams finished with 32 penalty minutes in a chippy contest.
