Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – David Burleigh, in his second start wearing an Ice Dogs uniform, played against his former team the San Diego Gulls. The Ice Dogs, trying to beat the Gulls for the second time all year, started off the game aggressively as Martin Paquet had a goal waived off because of the net coming loose.

Despite being grossly out shot in the first period the Long Beach Ice Dogs (21 -35- 5) struck first when Jerome Marois recorded his 14th goal of the season by slipping his own rebound past Trevor Koenig 12:57 into the match. The frustration and bad blood between these teams began to show as Darcy Johnson and Billy Tibbits mixed it up at center ice.

Burleigh successfully defended all 11 shots by San Diego Gulls (40 -12- 10) the first period. However, San Diego tied things up early in the second frame (2:32) when Mike Garrow dropped a sweet pass for teammate Andy Reierson for the power-play score. The Gulls continued to streak as Mark Pederson, ECHL leader in goals, scored his second goal of the game (11:49) making it 3 -1.

Long Beach tried to answer when Paquet ricocheted a shot past the Gulls keeper, but the goal was disallowed due to a high sticking call. The Dogs regained their composure as Nick Ganga scored a power play goal, his 15th of the season, 18:19 into the second period. San Diego sealed the deal as Greg Barber slipped the puck past Burleigh 16:16 into the third. The Ice Dogs were out shot 40 to 14 in the game.
