Atlanta Gladiators News Release

Despite tallying two third period goals, the Greensboro Generals overcame a 3-2 deficit to post a 4-3 win over the Gladiators on Saturday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

Kurt Drummond ripped a one-timer past Gladiators goaltender Trevor Prior late in the first period to give the Generals a 1-0 lead. Matt Elich and Mike Bayrack cycled the puck deep in the Gladiators end to add the assist on the goal at 16:36 of the period.

Greensboro extended its lead to two goals 5:39 into the second period as Eric Fortier slammed the puck from underneath Prior into the net. Bryson Busniuk and Mark Turner added the assists on the power play goal.

Kevin Doell cut the Generals lead in half with 2:45 remaining in the middle stanza. With Grreensboro netminder Jamie Hodson frozen against the left post, Doell dug the puck off the back of the net and jammed a wrap-around past the right post for the unassisted goal.

Steve Slonina tied the contest up at 2-2 off an outlet pass from Chris Durno at 12:28 of the final period. Shawn Weiman also added an assist on the equalizer.

Chris Durno gave the Gladiators a 3-2 lead 100 seconds later off a quick feed from Steve Slonina in the slot. Kris Goodjohn added an assist on the goal at 14:08 of the third period.

The Gladiators lead didn't last as the Generals tied the contest up at 3-3 as a slow whistle allowed Geno Parris to jam a puck past Prior for the equalizer. Fortier and Busniukk added the assists on the goal with three minutes remaining in final period.

Matt Turek tallied the game winner in overtime on an odd-man rush as he took a rink wide pass from Joel Irwin for the goal. Randy Parry added an assist on the goal at 2:23 of overtime.

Trevor Prior made 34 saves in the overtime loss and falls to 12-7-4 on the season.

The Gladiators are back in action on Tuesday when the Augusta lynx visit the Arena at Gwinnett Center for a 7:05 p.m. tilt.
