Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho - Lance Galbraith tallied his second hat trick of the season, and Darrell Hay notched the game-winning goal in overtime as the Idaho Steelheads rallied from a 3-0 deficit to sweep the Long Beach Ice Dogs Saturday night, 4-3. The win marks the first time this season the Steelheads have won a home game after trailing after two periods. On the season, Idaho improves its record to 2-16-2 when down after two frames.
Long Beach turned the tables on Idaho by tallying the game's first goal just :24 into the contest. Nick Ganga beat Steelhead goaltender Scott Kabotoff to give the Ice Dogs a quick lead. Idaho had scored the first goal 9 seconds into Friday's game. Long Beach made it 2-0 at 7:36 as Darcy Johnson scored after Kabotoff came up with two great saves. Long Beach extended the lead to 3-0 at the 13:52 mark as Trevor Read's shot eluded Kabotoff. Just when it looked like the Ice Dogs were going to skate away with the game, Lance Galbraith sparked a little life into the Idaho bench and the crowd of 4,840. Chris Slater cycled the puck behind the Ice Dogs' net, fed it to Galbraith, who beat Long Beach goalie T.J. Aceti for his 16th goal of the season.
In the second, Galbraith struck again as he tipped in Jeremy Mylymok's blast from just inside the blue line. The goal at 19:16 drew Idaho back to within one at 3-2.
Idaho threatened several times in the final period, but Aceti was equal to the task. Finally, at 14:11, Galbraith completed his hat trick as his turnaround wrist shot found the back of the net to draw the game level at 3. Chris Slater set up the tying goal.
Just 36 seconds into overtime, Idaho's Scott Burt carried the puck into the Long Beach end. He passed to Adam Copeland, who had the puck poke-checked away by T.J. Aceti. Defenseman Darrell Hay picked up the biscuit, and blasted it past Aceti for the game-winner. Hay's goal was his second overtime game-winner of the season. On February 7, his OT goal beat San Diego,
3-2.
Kabotoff made 28 saves as he won his second straight start, and improved his record with Idaho to 3-0. The Steelheads wrapped up their season series with Long Beach with a 7-0-3 record.
