Duluth Huskies News Release

The Huskies moved back into first place in the second half with a big win over the Waterloo Bucks by a score of 12-4. Troy Newell (Western Kentucky) took a no-hitter into the eighth inning and General McArthur (Missouri Baptist) had four hits and a home run.

The Huskies offense got on the board early with McArthur's solo home run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. The home run, pulled far over the left field fence, was the first by the Huskies at Wade Stadium all season.

For the second straight night, the Huskies batted around in the third inning. This time, that featured five runs, including a two-run double by Harrison Moore (Augusta University) who finished with three RBIs.

With a big lead, Troy Newell was nearly perfect on the mound. The starting pitcher retired 13 of the first 14 batters he faced. He entered the eighth inning with a no-hitter intact. Newell got the first two outs in the inning, but finally allowed his first hit on a blooper to center field. Newell finished the day with just one hit allowed, and no runs in 7.2 innings, and punched out nine Bucks.

Four more runs scored for the Huskies in the sixth inning, including another RBI single by McArthur to bring in Christian Jones (Washington) for his fourth hit of the day. Duluth's final run came in the eighth inning when Augie Isaacson (Friends) hit an RBI double.

Augie Voight (William Penn University) made his Huskies debut in relief of Newell and finished the game to give Duluth the win.

With the victory, and a loss from La Crosse, Duluth moves into first place in the second half standings with a 15-6 record. Duluth also maintains the best record in the North Division at 39-18. Furthermore, the Huskies move into a tie with the Madison Mallards for best overall record.

The Huskies will look to finish off a four-game sweep over the Bucks tomorrow. First pitch will be at 3:05 p.m. with Parker Hanson (Minnesota Crookston) getting the start.
