Green Bay Rockers News Release
Battle Creek, MI. - Trailing by one run in the eighth inning, the host Battle Creek Bombers (27-31, 11-12) scratched across a pair of runs to take back the lead, sneaking past the visiting Green Bay Bullfrogs (22-36, 10-12) by a final score of 7-6 at C.O. Brown Stadium Sunday afternoon. The Bullfrogs finish 4-4 against the Bombers in the 2018 season and played their final game in Michigan this summer.
The Bullfrogs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the opening frame on a RBI single by Riley Mihalik (Junior, Rider Univ.) and Preston Pavlica (Junior, Grand Canyon Univ.) scoring on an error by the pitcher.
Battle Creek stormed back with a four-spot in the following frame to grab a 4-2 advantage. The Bombers rally began with a RBI single by Jordan Swiss and sacrifice fly by Zach Gartner to tie the game at 2-2. A Riley Tirotta two-run double then put the Bombers in front.
Both teams were held scoreless until the fifth inning when Jordan Swiss brought home an insurance on a RBI single to extend the Battle Creek lead to 5-3.
Green Bay would rally back and take the lead in the seventh inning. A two-run double by Pavlica knot the score at 5-5 followed by the go-ahead RBI ground out from Andre Antone (Freshman, UC Irvine) to regain the advantage at 6-5.
The Bombers fought back again in the eighth frame. Battle Creek loaded the bases with one out, setting up the game-winning two-run single by Drake Osborn to put the hosts back ahead 7-6.
Blaise Maris (Sophomore, Florida Tech) posted another multi-hit effort, finishing 2-for-5 with one run scored. Mihalik also went 2-for-5, while Pavlica was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Adrian Damla (Sophomore, UC Irvine) finished 1-for-4 with two runs scored.
Battle Creek relief pitcher Kevin Hahn earned the win, improving to 3-3. Green Bay reliever Adam Bunnell (Sophomore, McKendree Univ.) took the loss, falling to 1-1.
The Green Bay Bullfrogs return home for a huge two-game series against the Kenosha Kingfish tomorrow night and Tuesday. The Frogs face their Big Top Baseball rivals for the final times this season. First pitch is slated for a 7:05 p.m. start at Joannes Stadium.
