Don't Call It a Comeback; Huskies Rally to Sweep Bucks

July 29, 2018 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Duluth Huskies News Release

The Duluth Huskies rallied from an early four-run deficit and completed a four-game sweep over Waterloo with a 6-4 victory on Sunday.

Waterloo scored three runs with two outs in the third inning via two RBI hits and a bases-loaded walk. Waterloo catcher Myles Emmerson led off the top of the fifth with a solo homerun, forcing Duluth to turn to the bullpen.

The Huskies answered with two runs in the home half. Hunter Bigge singled with one out and General McArthur drove him in with a triple. McArthur later scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Tony Monroy.

The Huskies batted around in the seventh inning and scored four runs to take the lead for good. Chris Gilbody and Harrison Moore led off the inning with back-to-back singles, chasing Waterloo starting pitcher Mike Townsend from the game. An error allowed Gilbody to score but Moore was thrown out at home plate.

McArthur drew a walk and Michael McCann tied the game with a double down the right field line. McCann stole third base and Monroy scored him with a single. Monroy then came around to score on an RBI single by Nick Sogard and Waterloo could only muster one baserunner the rest of the way.

Sogard, Bigge and McArthur each finished with two hits while Monroy collected two RBI. Colan Treml earned the win in relief, tossing three scoreless innings. Jason Braziel worked two shutout innings and struck out four as he picked up his first save.

The Huskies improve to 40-18 (16-6 second half) while Waterloo falls to 14-44 (4-19) on the season. The Huskies are the first Northwoods League team to reach 40 wins in 2018 and own an outright lead in both the overall and second half divisional standings. The Huskies welcome the Rochester Honkers to Wade Stadium for a two-game series on Monday and Tuesday.
