Huge Second Half Sparks Vipers Comeback Win Over Reno

RENO, Nevada - Three Rio Grande Valley players tallied double-doubles and Mike Harris scored a game high 36 points as the Vipers ran past the Reno Bighorns 127-113 Saturday night at the Reno Events Center. The Vipers (31-13) with the win earned a split in their weekend road series with Reno (21-22). The Vipers win the overall season series from the Bighorns 3-1.

Neither team had trouble putting the ball in the basket in the first half. In the first quarter the two squads traded the lead four times. Reno outscored RGV 34-33 after the first 12 minutes of basketball with Harris leading all scorers in the first with 13 points.

The second quarter started as an extension of the first stanza as Reno and RGV traded the lead on four additional occasions. Chris Davis gave Reno the lead for the final time in the first half with a three point bucket at the 10:51 mark of the second making the score 39-38. Back-to- back three point buckets by DJ Strawberry and Yaroslov Korolev prompted a time-out from Vipers Head Coach Chris Finch as the Bighorns increased their lead up to 54-47.

In the third quarter momentum shifted back to the Vipers. The Vipers went on a 19-2 run, capped off by a Jermaine Taylor three-point bucket from the left corner. Giving RGV take an 83-70 lead with 4:53 remaining in the period. The Vipers outscored the Bighorns in the third period 36-18 with Harris scoring 11 points for RGV. Both teams scored 31 points in the final period

Harris added 17 rebounds to his stat line earning his team leading 19th double-double to lead the Rio Grande Valley effort. Will Conroy struggled with his shot on Saturday but still earned his 14th double- double of the season scoring 12 points with a team high 10 assists. Julian Sensley added a double-double as well, his second of the season scoring 19 points with 10 rebounds. Taylor scored 21 on the second game of his re-assignment to RGV from the Houston Rockets.

Rod Benson earned his 18th double-double of the season by scoring 21 points 14 rebounds while blocking seven shots to lead the charge for Reno. DJ Strawberry scored 15 points with a game high 11 assists. Former Viper Desmon Farmer scored 19 as the Bighorns drop to two full games behind the Utah Flash for the final playoff spot in the D- League.

The Vipers return home on Friday for the first of their final four home games of the regular season as they host the Los Angeles D- Fenders for the first of back-to-back contests at State Farm Arena. Tip-off for Friday's game is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
