Buzzer Beater Lifts Dakota Over Erie

March 20, 2010 - NBA G League (G League) News Release

Erie, Pennsylvania - Curtis Withers' layup at the buzzer gave the Dakota Wizards a 101-100 victory over the Erie BayHawks on Saturday night in front a franchise-best crowd of 5,284 fans at the Tullio Arena.

Erie jumped out to a 14-point second quarter lead with 5 minutes 30 seconds to play in the half behind Darnell Jackson's 12 points. The Cleveland Cavaliers forward was playing on his second assignment with Erie this season. Renaldo Major then dropped in 6 second quarter points to lead a Dakota charge that brought the visitors within two at halftime trailing 50-48.

Dakota used a balanced effort in the third frame to take a 7-point lead in to the fourth quarter. It was Erie's turn to mount a comeback as they knotted the score at 95 with two minutes to play. The teams exchanged blows until Withers' decisive bucket was made on a play coming out of a timeout with 2.8 seconds to play. It appeared the BayHawks had Corsley Edwards stopped but he found Withers under the hoop for a layup just before the time expired to lift the Wizards to 26-19.

Major led Dakota with 17 points and Marcus Dove added 16 as every player on the roster scored for the visitors.

Erie was led by Darnell Jackson's 32 points and 11 rebounds. Cedric Jackson added 22 points and Michael Sweetney dropped in 20 for Erie as they dropped to 18-27.

The BayHawks continue their longest homestand of the season on Wednesday, March 24 as they play the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in a rescheduled game that was postponed due to snow in February. Tip is set for 7 pm. It the final Smith's One Buck Wednesday of the season and the Cleveland Cavaliers dance team and mascot will perform.
